The Issues

The Long Beach Unified School District has made great progress in recent years. Many schools are eligible and have been recognized for California Distinguished Schools designations, and the district was national winner of the Eli Broad Award for Urban Education in 2003. But to continue this progress, the school district needs a leader with district experience – someone who understands where the district has been and where it is headed. That’s why every member of the Long Beach School District Board of Education and four of the five members of the Long Beach City College Board heartily endorse Dr. Felton Williams for the position to be vacated by Board Member President Bobbie Smith.

Felton Williams is dedicated to continuing the successful policies of the LBUSD Board, to ensure our school children have the best possible educational opportunities. In addition, Dr. Williams will:

  • Work to continue reductions in class size. He knows that overcrowded classrooms make it more difficult for teachers to do their jobs.
  • Make every effort for children to attend their local neighborhood schools. That means making sure every school in the district provides a top-quality education.
  • Work with the business community to further expand partnerships.
  • Make the safety of our students a top priority.
  • Work diligently to promote after-school programs.
  • Increase parental involvement.
